What is somatic coaching?

Thomas Hanna describes the soma as “the body experienced from within”.

It is the idea that each of us exists as a whole interconnected being, including our thoughts, emotions, sensations and experiences. We are the experts of our own experience and how it shifts and changes within our lives.

To me, somatic coaching is centred around reconnecting with your humanity. It is about creating space for you to listen to and reconnect with your body and yourself.

In our sessions, you’ll start to bring awareness to areas where you feel tension, acknowledge sensations that come up when we touch on certain topics, notice what it feels like when your body says yes, and when it says no.

We’ll then use all of this rich, invaluable feedback from your inner world to help inform where you want to go and the steps you want to take to get there.

Taking a bottom-up approach, moving the starting point away from thinking and rationalising, and instead beginning any enquiry with the sensations and experiences appearing within the body. From there, we can then look at the emotions and thoughts that are also present.

Centring self-regulation and self-resourcing, working with your nervous system to help you stay balanced and present. Sharing tools and practices to help build resilience.

Viewing you as a whole and complex being, understanding that your mind and body don’t exist as two separate entities, but are deeply interconnected with each other and your environment.

Fostering a strong foundation of self-trust and inner knowing, figuring out who you are and what you truly want.
